Intermet to close plant

DETROIT — Intermet Corp. plans to close its Alexander City, Ala., aluminum plant in December.

The plant’s demise was caused by launch problems and related financial losses.

Intermet of Troy, Mich., expects the shutdown to result in a fourth-quarter charge of 40 cents per share. The plant has 117 employees.
