Slow sales idle plants

  • Ten assembly plants will be down this week because of slow sales. Ford Motor Co. will close the Chicago and Hermosillo, Mexico, plants because of slow fleet sales.

  • Honda Canada will begin building the 2002 model Acura MDX this week. The truck is made in Alliston, Ontario, where the Honda Odyssey and Civic and Acura EL also are built.

  • Honda Canada worked overtime Oct. 13 at Alliston for Acura EL and MDX and Honda Civic and Odyssey.

  • New United Motor Manufacturing Inc. worked overtime Oct. 13 for the Toyota Tacoma only.

  • U.S car output reached 4 million units Friday, Oct. 19, five weeks later in the year than in 2000.

  • Canadian truck output reached 1 million units Monday, Oct. 15, also five weeks later than in 2000.
