Dodging the law

After a 12-year hiatus from hot pursuits, Dodge returns to patrolling the streets next year with the 2002 Intrepid police car package. The car is based on the Intrepid R/T and features a 242-hp 3.5-liter V-6. Special equipment includes heavy-duty four-wheel disc brakes, a 160-amp alternator and coolers for the transmission fluid, engine oil and power steering fluid. Production is scheduled to begin in January at the Brampton, Ontario, assembly plant. The major players in law enforcement fleets are the Chevrolet Impala and the Ford Interceptor, which is based on the Crown Victoria.
