Visteon wants tax relief for HQ site

DETROIT - Visteon Corp. is seek-ing tax breaks to build a $300 million to $350 million headquarters on a 220-acre site in western Wayne County, Mich. On Tuesday, Oct. 2, the parts maker filed a tax abatement application with Van Buren Town-ship re-garding land south of Ecorse Road and east of I-275. About 3,500 office and technical jobs are proposed for the development.

With more than 20 nonmanufac-tur-ing sites in southeast Michi-gan, the Ford Motor Co. spinoff wants to centralize operations and lower its facilities costs.

Visteon's headquarters is in Dear-born, Mich., near its former parent.

Van Buren Township will consider Visteon's request Oct. 16.
