Valeo, Ricardo close 42-volt deal

PARIS - Valeo Inc. and Ricardo Inc. have formed a partnership that combines Valeo's 42-volt electrical systems with Ricardo's diesel powertrain and expertise in systems integration.

The companies will work on technologies for a 42-volt mild hybrid diesel vehicle that aims to reduce fuel consumption by as much as 30 percent. The vehicle, called i-MoGen, for Intelligent Motor Generator, will include Valeo's 42-volt systems such as the integrated starter-alternator, heating ventilation and air conditioning, and engine cooling. The powertrain will include a 1.2-liter diesel developed by Ricardo.
