NEW DELHI: Mother India beckons

Toyota may sell the Corolla there

Toyota Motor Corp.'s subsidiary in India is thinking about introducing the Corolla to that market.

The car could be on the roads in the next two years, says Kazuhiko Takarada, deputy managing director of Toyota Kirloskar Motor Ltd. He said the Corolla appears to be more suited for Indian roads than the Camry. But Toyota has not ruled out a smaller car such as the Vitz/Yaris.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has a plant in Bidadi near Bangalore. The factory produces the Qualis, a vehicle that can carry as many as 10 people.
