Borrego is a maybe

Asked about General Motors' alliances, GM North America President Ron Zarrella said, "We have some pretty terrific stuff working with Subaru." He was interviewed by Product Editor Rick Kranz at a GM event last month in Monterey, Calif.

The Chevrolet Borrego is a sharp-looking concept that was influenced by rally cars and Baja racers. GM placed the Chevy brand on top of a Subaru Legacy platform. Will the Borrego be produced?

The specific issue with the Borrego is that we think we need to get to a (lower) price point to make it work. The component set for the Legacy is not inexpensive. You've got to get well under $20,000 to make that work.

The question is whether we can get there with the component set. It is not dead yet. We're still talking about it. Subaru would love to do it. We're working on it, but nothing to report there.
