No-pollution lasers prepare surfaces of compressor

Halla Visteon Climate Control Corp.
What: New assembly method between shaft and swash plate
Innovation: The shaft and swash plate of Halla’s air-conditioning compressor rub against each other, so they are coated with Teflon. To prepare surfaces for Teflon, such parts are typically sandblasted, anodized or treated with phosphates. Halla prepares the surface with lasers, which improves adhesion of the Teflon, removes a small burr created by machining and reduces pollution because lasers don’t use harmful chemicals.
First customer: Mazda Axela in Japan, 2011
