Vehicle type: Plug-in hybrid coupe
Engine: 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 and a 110-kw electric motor, for a combined 700 hp
Who designed it: A team led by Audi design chief Wolfgang Egger
What's cool: Design similar to the iconic 1980 quattro rally car, a honeycomb version of Audi's "single pane" grille, Matrix LED headlights and a choice of EV, hybrid and sport modes
Will it be built: Probably in some form. The car shares architecture with the next-generation A5, which is due in 2015. Audi CEO Rupert Stadler said a model similar to the Sport Quattro may make sense in the "midterm."
Show reaction: It drew easily 10 times as many gawkers as its neighbors at the Audi stand - the new A3 cabriolet and refreshed A8 sedan.
