1971 -- KUKA welding: One robot becomes many

Although technically a robotic system, KUKA’s welding transfer system brought the power of the assembly line to robotics. According to KUKA, it became the first European welding assembly line consisting entirely of hydraulic robots when it was bought by Daimler-Benz AG.
