WINNER: Nano pigments give paint vibrant color
PPG Industries Inc.
What: PPG Andaro tint dispersions
Innovation: Automakers historically have used organic dyes to achieve color depth. But those dyes no longer meet durability requirements. To solve the problem, PPG reduces pigment particles to very small, or nano, sizes for water- and solvent-based uses. The smaller particles let in more light and increases reflection. The increased reflection in the paint means dense, vibrant hues.
First customer: Vehicles produced in 2011 at Chrysler Toledo North and Chrysler Windsor plants, including Dodge Nitro, Jeep Liberty, Chrysler Town & Country, Dodge Grand Caravan, Ram van, Volkswagen Routan and Lancia Grand Voyager
