WINNER: Aluminum driveshaft sheds weight and paint
Dana Holding Corp.
What: Diamond series driveshafts
Innovation: The driveshaft, made of a high-strength aluminum tube with steel end fittings, replaces the traditional heavy two-piece steel driveshaft. Dana uses magnetic pulse welding, a lower-pollution alternative to metal inert gas welding, to make the driveshaft. The aluminum shaft is lighter, quieter and needs no paint.
