Chevrolet Avalanche

Chevrolet's attempt to blend an SUV with a big pickup proved successful when the Avalanche went on sale in 2001 as a 2002 model. Chevy has sold more than 605,000 Avalanche models, including a record 93,482 copies in 2003. Based on the same platform as GM's big Chevy and GMC pickups, the Avalanche boasted two unique features: the rear glass of the crew cab could be removed and the rear cab wall folded down to extend the length of the truck bed. It also features lockable storage bins in the side rails of the truck bed: drains in the bottom of the bins can be plugged to enable them to store ice or liquid. Chevy has no plans to replace it when GM's new big pickups arrive next year, and the 2013 model year will be the last for the Avalanche.
