The North American auto show season resumed this week with a slew of new and refreshed car and light-truck models in the spotlight in Los Angeles.

Mathias Muller, president and CEO of Porsche, unveiled the 2014, third-generation Cayman. Porsche engineers have shaved a few pounds off the Cayman -- enough to provide up to 32 mpg, depending on the engine configuration. Two 6-cylinder engines will be available: a Boxster-borrowed 2.7-liter in the Cayman -- generating 275 horsepower, 10 more than before. And a Boxster/Carrera-borrowed 3.4-liter in the Cayman S, with 325 horses, a gain of 5. It goes on sale in the U.S. next spring.
