With sales of 362,707, the Accord line became the top-selling U.S. car in 1989 for the first time -- and a first for a Japanese automaker. Accord sales that year finished ahead of the No. 2 Ford Taurus, No. 3 Ford Escort, No. 4 Chevrolet Corsica/Beretta, No. 5 Chevrolet Cavalier and the No. 6 Toyota Camry.
