Heat exchanger boosts fuel economy
Dana, Power Technologies Group
What: Heat exchanger to warm engine oil during cold starts
Innovation: The Dana heat exchanger uses warm coolant to heat engine oil, cutting fuel consumption 4 percent during federally required cold-start testing at 19 degrees Fahrenheit. When the engine is warm, the exchanger can cool oil by transferring heat from the oil to the coolant.
