Volvo Polestar 1

Segment: Alternative power

Drivetrain option(s): NA

Powertrain(s): Electric

New 2019

Polestar, the performance badge formerly part of Chinese-owned Volvo Cars, debuted as a standalone electric vehicle brand with the Polestar 1. The muscular electric hybrid boasts a range of 93 miles, 600 horsepower and about 738 pounds-feet of torque. The Polestar 1 shares technology and much of its styling with Volvo vehicles. The coupe is based on Volvo's scalable platform architecture, which underpins the 90 series vehicles the XC60. Polestar plans to begin production of the two-door in two years. Polestar said it will produce only 500 Polestar 1 coupes globally a year. The forthcoming Polestar 2 and Polestar 3 will be full battery-electric vehicles, the company said. The Polestar 2 will be a midsize sedan expected to compete with the Tesla Model 3, and the Polestar 3 will be an SUV, priced between the Polestar 1 and the Polestar 2.
