This is not just a people mover with leather seats and a nice sound system. Neither is it merely a rebadged Audi Q5, with which It shares a platform.
The Macan features a choice of two asphalt-rippling twin-turbo V-6 engines: a 3.0-liter that generates 340 hp and a 3.6-liter that makes 400 hp. In top trim, the Macan will zoom from 0 to 60 in 4.6 seconds.
Putting that power to the pavement is Porsche's PDK seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and its proprietary all-wheel-drive system. A choice of three suspensions is available, including electronically adjustable shock absorbers and an air suspension with leveling and height adjustment.
Porsche expects to see a lot of shoppers new to Porsche dealerships when the $50,000 Macan arrives in May or June of 2014. Executives expect first-year production to be around 50,000. A plug-in hybrid is possible down the road.
