A series of TED Style talks:

1) The legal and ethical challenges in the development of driverless cars and smart roads.

There is a long history of the law failing to 'keep up' with developments in technology, and driverless cars are no exception. Key issues include safety, privacy, security, liability for accidents, vehicle priority, congestion and the potential environmental impact. The talk, by Chris Connolly, will also examine the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the driverless car environment.

2) What good looks like

Cllr Mark Shelford will travel forward in time to explore how the Streets of Bath will change and some of the technical, cultural and social challenges that new technology will bring.

3) Removing the nut behind the wheel

Andrew Hawthorn will consider whether autonomous cars can be safe.

4) Public perceptions of autonomous vehicles

This presentation by Dr Miriam Ricci will provide an overview of what we currently know about public perceptions of and preferences for autonomous vehicles, drawing from a literature review of studies carried out around the world. It will then discuss the results of social research conducted as part of autonomous vehicle projects in the greater Bristol area.
