MUNICH - BMW is considering building vehicles at the endangered NedCar plant in the Netherlands that belongs to Japan's Mitsubishi Motors, a BMW spokesman said.
"We're in talks with NedCar over a third party manufacturing contract," the spokesman said on Wednesday, without giving further details.
Earlier this month, Dutch newspaper Dagblad De Limburger said negotiations were taking place between bus maker VDL Groep and Mitsubishi to build cars for the BMW Group at NedCar, adding that both parties were close to finalizing a deal.
In February, Mitsubishi said it would not allocate any new models to NedCar after production of the Colt minicar and Outlander SUV runs out at the end of this year.
Reports at the time said BMW wants to build cars for the company's expanding Mini brand at the factory.
NedCar could not be reached for a comment.
