ORLANDO, Fla. -- Ford Motor Co. is offering to help dealerships cut energy use.

For a fee, Ford will assess a dealership's energy use and recommend how it can become more energy efficient said Ken Czubay, Ford's vice president of U.S. sales and marketing.

The Green Dealer Initiative, which Ford planned to reveal at its make meeting at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention, is voluntary, Czubay said.

Ford estimates the recommended changes could cost dealerships $100,000 to $800,000. But dealers can make up that investment within three years, Czubay said.

Also at the meeting, Ford planned to announce a Customer Service Committee of 18 dealers. The committee will study how dealers can improve customers' experiences.
