DETROIT -- Jason Vines, a former public relations chief at Chrysler and Ford, is joining a Christian communications and publishing company. Vines, 49, has been appointed vice president of public relations and communications for Zondervan, a Grand Rapids, Mich.-based unit of HarperCollins. "They made me an offer and I took it. It fell into my lap and it's exciting," he said. "I think my skills are portable." He left Chrysler in 2007, after it was acquired by Cerberus Capital Management. He spent a year about a year at Compuware Corp. in Detroit, and in March joined Detroit-area food rescue program Forgotten Harvest, where he directed fundraising and communications. Vines, a former stand-up comedian, started his auto career at Chrysler in 1983. He left in 1998 for Nissan North America. He later ran corporate communications for Ford Motor Co. during the Firestone tire recall on Ford Explorers, before returning to Chrysler in 2003. He is a three-time Automotive News All-Star. |
