Chrysler will fix wiring bug

WASHINGTON -- Chrysler LLC is recalling 181,000 Chrysler Sebrings and Dodge Avengers built for the 2007-08 model years to fix an electrical defect that can prevent them from running.

Problems occur if unused electrical connectors in the tire pressure monitoring system corrode and short out, Chrysler told regulators earlier today. Engines may stall or not start, batteries may go dead, or cruise control and other components may fail, the company said.

Dealers are to remove the unused connectors, located near as many as three wheels, and seal the circuits, Chrysler told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The condition has not been blamed for any crash, Chrysler said. Notification of owners is to begin in mid-April.
