DETROIT -- Ford Motor Co.'s U.S. sales could drop by around 10 percent in February, a Ford sales analyst said Wednesday. "The retail business is not that strong" throughout the industry, Ford's George Pipas said. While the automaker's sales will be down from the previous year, Ford will "hold our own" on retail performance relative to the rest of the industry, the sales analyst said. Ford Motor's total sales dropped 3.9 percent in January. Industry light-vehicle sales fell 4.1 percent last month. Automakers will announce February sales on Monday, March 3. The seasonally adjusted annual selling rate could come in lower than it did in January, Pipas said. Said Pipas: "I think we can all agree: '08 is getting off to a pretty low start." |
