Mercedes recalls diesel-powered vehicles

DETROIT -- Mercedes-Benz USA is recalling 9,004 diesel-powered vehicles from the 2007 model year because of a faulty crankshaft sensor.

Crankshaft sensors in the recalled vehicles could fail. This would cause the vehicle to lose power and the ability to restart, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall covers diesel-powered versions of the 2007 Mercedes-Benz E320, GL320, R320 and ML320..

The company said it sold 12,580 vehicles with diesel engines in the United States in 2007.
