In addition, the Hall gave Young Leadership and Excellence awards to five individuals under age 35. They were:
Toyoda, 82, is the honorary chairman of Toyota Motor Corp. and son of the auto giant's founder.
Toyoda said that when he was told half a year earlier that he was to be inducted, he received many telegrams of congratulations. He joked that most said only older people, “those about to leave the stage,” would receive such an award. He added that he was glad to see the younger individuals honored as well.
Pininfarina has a case of the flu, and his doctor advised him not to make the trip. His son, Paolo, vice chairman of the company that bears the family name, accepted on his behalf.
