FRANKFURT — Infiniti will field a lineup of “10 or so” nameplates early in the next decade, says Carlos Tavares, Nissan Motor Co.'s global product boss. In an interview at the Frankfurt auto show, Tavares, executive vice president for product planning, said additions to Infiniti's current six-vehicle lineup haven't been decided. But, he adds, “You can imagine — crossovers, a sports-oriented car, a high-end car.” Infiniti has been primarily a U.S. brand, but has expanded into markets such as South Korea and Russia. It has said it will move into western Europe in fall 2008. Tavares says efforts to expand Infiniti's geographic reach are necessary to build volumes. A broader lineup will spur dealer investment in high-end stores, he says. By 2010, he says, Nissan will meet its goal of having Infiniti in more than 90 percent of global luxury markets and of expanding the Infiniti lineup by 50 percent. “2010 will be the tipping point,” he says. “Infiniti will be a worldwide luxury brand.” You may e-mail Dave Guilford at dguilford@crain.com |
