VW to introduce CO2 friendly models at Frankfurt IAA

New BlueMotion versions expected in 2008 – delay for the Power Passat R36

In addition to the new Golf sedan, Volkswagen will introduce five additional cars that comply with its environmentally friendly production standards.

The Touran, the Jetta, the Golf Variant wagon, the Golf Plus and the delivery van, Caddy, which is also available as the model Life, will all carry the BlueMotion seal of approval, sources told Automotive News Europe's sister publication Automobilwoche.

VW's BlueMotion cars are not only fuel efficient, they have low carbon emissions and represent the carmaker's commitment to sustainability.

Except for the Touran, all new BlueMotion versions are expected on the market at the beginning of 2008, a VW source told Automobilwoche. The Touran will come on the market in April. Expected on the market this year is Volkswagen's anticipated Golf BlueMotion hatchback, which has a fuel efficiency of 4.5 liters diesel per 100 kilometer and CO2 emissions of only 119 grams per kilometer.

The start of the 300 horsepower Passat R36 will be delayed until November, a VW spokesperson told Automobilwoche. The car, in both a dynamic sedan version as well as a wagon version with a top speed of 250 km/h, was originally slated to go on sale this Summer. The spokesperson blamed "technical reasons" for the delay and called reports that VW was pulling the model on purpose because of the environmental theme of this year's Frankfurt IAA, "errant speculation." He also categorically denied reports that Volkswagen was planning to bring out a new R36, based on the current Golf model. "There won't be a Golf V as a R36, because we're already perfectly positioned with the Golf R32," he said.
