Having whetted dealers' appetites with the redesigned 2007 Tundra full-sized pickup, Toyota Division told dealers that an even larger version is on the way.

"We asked about the product horizon beyond the half-ton truck, and they assured us that it is coming," said Devin Graves, owner of Putnam Toyota in Altus, Okla.

Graves' dealership already sells four times as many trucks as cars, a ratio likely to grow with the new Tundra.

"A three-quarter or one-ton truck, especially one with a diesel, would really bolster our position," Graves said.

Toyota officials declined to give specifics on the announcement. One executive, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Toyota is studying such a plan, and that "it would be safe to say" the automaker likely would bring a larger Tundra in three or four years.
